[open-bibliography] Identifiers in the BNB

William,

We are beginning to work on linking to VIAF, in the first instance to
personal names - this would cover personal names as creators and
contributors. Next step will be to link to corporate names but note that
in library practice publisher names are usually not normalised and
therefore not controlled.

We're looking at options for providing URIs for other entities (e.g.
records) but that's a bit further down the line.

Cheers

Corine

Subject: [open-bibliography] Identifiers in the BNB

The major problem with the BL dataset, quite apart
from how things like controlled vocabularies for subjects
are handled, is the absence of identifiers (URIs ideally)
for the records and for agents (authors, editors,
publishers).

The most valuable thing the BL could do to improve
this dataset is to mint those identifiers.

There are identifiers that have been generated by the
bibliographica project but particularly for the
agents it is a potentially error-prone process and
it would be much better if we could have them from
the horse's mouth so to speak.

Corinne, is there any chance this could happen in the
near future?

Thanks,
-w
