[open-data-day] open-data-day Digest, Vol 13, Issue 4

There should be a planning meeting (Skype / Hangout / whatever)
convened, there are some important tasks:
* volunteers for planning
* doodle for first meeting date
* update the splash page http://opendataday.org/
* update the wiki http://wiki.opendataday.org/
* resource, enable and communicate the subdomain-per-city redirect
idea (e.g. ottawa.opendataday.org)
* communicate the date and overall "register your interest and then
plan whatever event you want" approach
* communicate the hashtag e.g. #odhd14

Lower priorities but also important:
* fix the spam issues for the mailing list
* fix the spam issues for the wiki

I know that OKFN has taken over the hosting of the sites.
Is there any way to add greater flexibility and scale (e.g. tap into
Ben Balter at GitHub, connect it to GitHub for Government
http://government.github.com/ ? )
If the tools that are supposed to be enablers (the mailing list and
wiki) aren't up to the task, it makes it hard to organise the event.

To me the whole event is basically
* communicate the date
* provide a shared place to link to local events
* have a shared channel e.g. #odhd14 to communicate on the day of

While it's a distributed event, it does depend on those elements of
central coordination and communication.

I mention these planning tasks because I'm already seeing questions in
various channels about the event.
