Subject: [CrisisMappers] Humanitarian Funding Data now available in XML
To: crisismappers at googlegroups.com

Hello all,

Back in August, I asked the Crisis Mappers network help me find a way to
pull data out of the Financial Tracking System (FTS - fts.unocha.org
<http://fts.unocha.org> ) in an automatic way to create dynamic charts.  The
big challenge was how to get the data out --- FTS only provided PDF and XLS
formats.  We eventually found a way to scrap the HTML page into a Google Doc
and do some charting from there.

Before, during, and after my deployment to Pakistan, I was pushing the OCHA
section, responsible for the FTS, to open up their data in a format that
people could use.  A couple weeks ago, they launched the XML and RSS feeds
on a staging environment. It is now available on their main site.

I believe that, with this data 'open', various entities should be able to do
some very interesting things.  I am curious to see what comes out in the
coming months.

If you have any feedback about the XML/RSS feeds, please let me know and I
will feed that back to the the developer in a structured way.

Steps to reach to RSS feed page -

Step 1 - click on the "Make a Custom Table" link -

Step 2 - Create your query depending on the requirement - contribution or
project based

Step 3 - Once the search results are shown, click on the "click here to
login" link on the top of the search menu items

Step 4 - After login SAVE the query and visit the " My financial page "

Step 5 - Under financial page you will see the RSS feed and XML output link
of the save query result.

Cheers,
