Ogg: [open-government] Interesting Open Data Job

Hey all,
An interesting new project from Restless Development (youth led international development charity, based in London) is recruiting for an Open Data Adviser to support their new DFID funded project on 'youth-led data driven accountability and governance'. Contact victoria at restlessdevelopment.org for more info.

Details at http://www.restlessdevelopment.org/uk-jobs and below:

Restless Development is recruiting an Open Data Adviser to play a leading role in the technical design process for a big idea to transform government transparency. This role will support national partners to analyse, interpret and use open data and play a central role in building long term, strategic partnerships linking the project to the open data community. The post would be well suited to someone with an interest in data journalism, or with an interest in using their technical open data skills for social change. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role on the development of a high-profile global initiative in a dynamic and fast-growing agency.

To apply please download the Job Description here and send your CV and covering letter to victoria at restlessdevelopment.org by 12 noon BST on 22nd August 2013

More on the ProjectTHE BIG IDEA: Youth-led data-driven accountability and governance in a post-2015 world. Restless Development and partners are excited to present a big idea to transform government and aid transparency that goes far beyond citizen consultation. It’s a process of ‘open development’ that provides on-going and responsive feedback on progress to tackle the world’s most persistent problems – government by government, region by region, and goal by goal.

We welcome calls for a post-2015 “data-revolution”, but there must be a committed effort to ensure that the availability of more and better data is used to empower citizens to play their role in effective accountability mechanisms. With a diverse consortium of strategic partners, Restless Development will pilot the Big Idea in the countdown to the MDGs. The pilot project will achieve the following outcomes:

Provide structured learning for civil society stakeholders on the open data landscape and movement, and most effective means to engage young people in open development.

Demonstrate how open data - in the hands of technical, talented and driven young people, backed up by deeper qualitative enquiry and consultation - can make a stand-out contribution to accountability mechanisms and lead to specific positive changes in policy and decision-making.

Build collaboration between experts from different specialist sectors to test together a dynamic model of multi-stakeholder partnership for development.

Make the case for youth-led accountability models to be a core part of the ‘data-revolution’ by pro-actively influencing member states and UN agencies at key moments in the post-2015 process.
