Dear list,
The Open Economics Group has done well so far: A few months back, we
used the World Bank data to create an app that dealt with a
fundamental problem in the economic literature (i.e. how to measure
development) and was fun at the same time (http://www.yourtopia.net).
Now we would like to push things further!
Endowed with the prize money from the World Bank competition (5k USD),
we are now exploring various options for future projects. More
specifically, we are asking you to contribute new ideas on
http://ideas.okfn.org over the next two weeks (please tag them with
'open-economics' plus 'cfp-2011'. By pooling all ideas, we can
brainstorm and decide our next project.
Also, we are seeking to expand the open economics working group - so
feel free to invite colleagues or friends who are interested in
combining economics/development with open data. The role of
information in advancing development has been well recognized in the
recent years, and we should seek to promote the dissemination of more
information.
To set a few milestones, please submit your ideas until the 8th of
May. Based on the submissions and discussions, we can schedule a
Skype/IRC conference (15 May) to plan the next steps.
Happy brainstorming!
Best,
Guo
