Dear Colleagues:
Some important open data developments:
On Wednesday, CERN and OpenAIRE launched Zenodo - http://www.zenodo.org/ - "a one-stop-store for research output. Created by OpenAIRE and CERN, and supported by the European Commission, this new-generation online repository offers its service from the OpenAIRE pan-European initiative, which expands the linking of research output to datasets and funding information, in European and national contexts.... Sign up now for an account at Zenodo and submit your research in easy steps (e.g. via Dropbox)." Full details are at: https://www.openaire.eu/en/home/9-news-events/457-zenodo-is-launched
On Thursday the White House issued a new Open Data Policy declaring that "information is a valuable national asset whose value is multiplied when it is made easily accessible to the public. The Executive Order requires that, going forward, data generated by the government be made available in open, machine-readable formats, while appropriately safeguarding privacy, confidentiality, and security." The RECODE project, has been launched to generate policy recommendations for open access to research data in Europe. Full details are at: http://recodeproject.eu/.
The EU Open Data Portal is in beta at: http://open-data.europa.eu/en/about. Feedback can be given via this form: http://open-data.europa.eu/en/contact.
With best wishes,
