Dear All,



Welcome to the Open Education mailing list.



This list has been set up to support the Open Education Working Group 
<http://education.okfn.org>. The working group is still in early 
development stages but is being established as a way to sustain the 
broad open education network created through the LinkedUp project 
<http://linkedup-project.eu>and other open education activities the Open 
Knowledge Foundation <http://okfn.org>is involved in.



The OKF defines Working Groups as "domain-specific groups to focus on 
discussion and activity around a given area of open knowledge. They 
provide an opportunity for people with similar interests to gather 
online (and sometimes in person) to hack, discuss, lobby, promote and 
explore particular areas of Open Knowledge and/or Open Data."



We will be officially be launching the working group at a panel session 
<http://okcon.org/2013/08/20/join-the-open-education-working-group-and-panel/>to 
be held at OKCon in Geneva, 16-18 September 2013. There are still 
tickets left for OKCon <http://okcon.org/tickets/>so if you'd like to 
participate in the world's leading open data and open knowledge 
conference then register soon!



Until then this list is likely to remain a little quiet, but once OKCon 
is over we would like to start thinking about activities the working 
group could initiate. If you have any ideas on areas that you'd like the 
Open Education Working Group to get involved with then do let us know.



We hope that in time the Open Education Working Group, and the mailing 
list that supports it, will enable people to feel part of a wide 
community that covers all aspects of open education from resources and 
data, to culture, pedagogy and policy.



We are happy for you as the members of that community to sit back and 
enjoy or actively participate. All are welcome!
