Dear colleagues 

I am pleased to announce the webinar on Open Education titled "Overselling Open” by Jim Groom. 
The webinar is organised by the Telefonica Chair of UNIR and will take place on the 13th of September 2016 at 17.00 CET (GMT +2).

The speaker/el conferenciante:
Jim Groom es el co-fundador de Reclaim Hosting, una empresa independiente de web-hosting centrada en la comunidad de educación superior. Anteriormente fue el director de la División de Enseñanza y Tecnologías para el Aprendizaje y profesor adjunto en la Universidad de Mary Washington, Virginia, US. En 2010 ha lanzado el curso de informática “Digital Storytelling” en la Universidad Mary Washington como una comunidad abierta, un experimento de aprendizaje online que se ha tenido un impacto internacional por su innovadora visión.

Abstract of the webinar: 
Increasingly Open Education as a movement is defined as an end in itself, often defined by increased "market penetration" of Open Educational Resources. This discussion will explore the conflation of Open Education as an ethos with OER as a political/economic movement that obfuscates deeper funding issues in higher education.
