Overview of the OER briefing for staff of the US congress.

We see very little sign of this in other countries. Unless our readership knows better?

Subject: [OER-advocacy] OER Congressional Briefing

Hi all,

Reporting back on today's highly successful OER briefing on Capitol Hill for Congressional staff. The event was sponsored by SPARC, CCSSO, SETDA, CoSN and the Congressional E-Learning and Open Source Caucuses, and featured remarks from Congressman Jared Polis, Mike Carroll from Creative Commons US, Ethan Senack from USPIRG and Val Emerich from the Maryland State Department of Education. The room was packed with staff from several dozen Congressional offices, industry and non profit groups, and several staff from the Obama Administration.

Briefings are a highly effective tactic for building visibility for an issue in DC, educating a large number of offices at once, and giving supportive offices a chance to self-identify. However briefings can only happen when sponsored by a member of Congress, so we are fortunate to have a number of champions who made this event possible.

Finally I want to give a shout out to Reg, whose team did all of the heavy lifting to plan the event.

Best,
Nicole
