[Open-education] Greetings from UNESCO MGIEP

Dear friend, colleague

After 6 years as the Programme Specialist for Open Educational Resources at the UNESCO Knowledge Societies Division in Paris, France, I recently transferred to the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) which is based in New Delhi, India.

I now lead the MGIEP global Youth Programme Youth Programme which aims to critically transform a critical mass of young people into champions of peace, sustainable development, and global citizenship through innovative ICT-based pedagogies.

In January 2016, MGIEP launched the Campus Ambassadors Project<http://mgiep.unesco.org/unesco-mgiep-launches-its-campus-ambassadors-programme-at-cee-in-ahmadabad/> in Ahmadabad, India which enhances the responses of youth to rising challenges and complexities the world is facing through interventions in higher education.

In February, 2016, MGIEP launched the India Chapter of YESPeace<http://mgiep.unesco.org/unesco-mgiep-launches-yespeace-india/> (Youth for Education, Sustainable Development and Peace) global network marking the beginning of a journey to transform the - 356 million strong - youth of India into Global citizens, through the unique lens of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development.

YESPeace India was launched at the MGIEP 2016 Talking Across Generations<http://mgiep.unesco.org/talking-across-generations-2016-can-extremism-radicalize-youth-for-peace/> event where over 500 participants focused on the role of education in preventing and combating violent extremism around the world and discussed "Can education radicalize youth for peace?" (see very cool video<https://www.facebook.com/mgiep/videos/vb.805227102841170/1085781121452432/?type=2&theater>). The MGIEP TAG2016 culminated with the 1st time ever joint live concert by legendary Pakistani and Indian bands Junoon<http://www.junoon.com/> and Indian Ocean<http://www.indianoceanmusic.com/>.
