[open-energy] energy production vs. consumption

This is very interesting Gregor! A great start.
A few thoughts:
* I wonder if it is possible to do things like this without a key /
explanation / text? I.e. is there any way we can visually communicate
what is happening, with icons/pictograms/etc? Or at least to keep
explanation to a minimum.
* There isn't that big a range of dates in the data. Hence I wonder
whether (in addition to the animation showing this unfold over time)
it would also be interesting to show a *still* image showing the most
recent data, perhaps with the bubbles a bit clearer / bigger and to
slowly cycle through the countries showing the flag, and more detailed
info on relative production / consumption? E.g. after the animation?
* It could be interesting to do a whole bunch of little
visualisations using the same visual 'language'. E.g. could do another
using the same production/consumption circles, but country by country
(with bubble taking up whole screen) and adding 'renewables target' in
as a band that is 20% of consumption, and showing what current
renewables is (perhaps as another circle inside production?). Then we
could progress through from the simpler ones (where it is most obvious
what the colors / circles mean) through to the more complex ones, as
the 'visual language' becomes more familiar?
* Also think its worth exploring treemaps? A bit like the original
stills we generated at the hackday? [1]
What do you think?
All the best,
Jonathan
