Hi, I presume everyone on this list is aware of the Obama Administration's www.data.gov, the purpose of which is to provide the public with access to machine readable, public domain data produced by the federal government. This site to a large extent duplicates other agency websites that also make these data resources similarly available, but provides a different mechanism.

Thanks for this Olav!

Does anyone else have any evidence/anecdotes about impact of open
government data competitions?

Jonathan

Hi, here's a couple of paragraphs as requested. See also the link.
When they recounted they came to 137 applications, which is the
correct number.

The Norwegian Ministry for Government Administration made public its
idea competition "Nettskap 2.0" in the beginning of April 2010.
Norwegian developers - companies, public agencies or individuals -
were challenged to come up with web-based project ideas in the subject
areas service development and innovation, more efficient work
processes, or increased democratic participation. The use of
government data was explicitly encouraged.

Though the application deadline was just a month later, on May 9, the
Minister Rigmor Aasrud said the response was "overwhelming". 137
applications were received, and no less than 90 of them build on the
reuse of government data. A total amount of NOK 2,5 Million will be
distributed among the winners, who will be announced by the end of
June. The total sum of the applications is NOK 28,4 Million.

Ministry press release:
