[open-government] open-government Digest, Vol 17, Issue 27

For more about Australian governments' practices on open access, see our "Creative Commons and Government" guide - pages 5-6 and Appendix 1, from page 89 on, summarise the federal government's current position, as well as that in Queensland under GILF, with links to policy statements by other States.
See generally http://creativecommons.org.au/sectors/government
The "Creative Commons and Government" guide is here http://eprints.qut.edu.au/38364/
or, directly, here http://eprints.qut.edu.au/38364/20/CC_and_Govt_Guide_v3.2_110316_Final.pdf

For additional information on the background to all of this (including the revisions/reforms of FOI/Right to Information laws in some Australian jurisdictions) see the ePSI Platform Topic Report (No. 13, 2010) at
http://www.epsiplatform.eu/topic_reports/topic_report_13_state_of_play_psi_re_use_in_australia or
http://eprints.qut.edu.au/33206/

You might also be interested in other publications listed on our Access to PSI site (www.aupsi.org/publications ). Note in particular the 2-volume book "Accesss to public sector information: law, technology and policy" (2010) which provides a pretty comprehensive overview (through chapters by various players in Australia and elsewhere) of how the Australian situation has evolved and what the influences have been. See http://eprints.qut.edu.au/34085/

Happy to answer any questions about how GILF emerged and was shaped, how information policy was put onto the agenda during the Review of the National Innovation system (chaired by Dr Terry Cutler) in 2008 and how Creative Commons licences are being used throughout the Australian government, academic, community and business sectors. I am the CC-Australia point of contact for use of Creative Commons licences in government and am currently doing a study of how the licences are being used.

We will also commence implementation in local government in late July.

This is all very valuable information - thank you very much Baden.

Do you think that you and/or any of your colleagues from the
Australian government would be willing to join a conversation with
others about drafting and signing a set of international open
government data principles?

All the best,

Jonathan

Id be happy to participate in that. AusGOAL is the nationally endorsed
cross-jurisdictional framework. It sits with AusGOAL.
