It is good to go back to the fundamentals and to learn from the innovators
when it comes to data access.
International Council for Science (ICSU) CODATA (Committee on Data for
Science and Technology)
Scientific Access to Data and Information

CODATA is one of the most important International Organizations on the
management, preservation and dissemination of scientific data.
It has developed the key principles for the dissemination of data -
http://www.codata.org/resources/databases/data_access/principles.html
and a list of important data access policy statements we can all learn and
quote from
http://www.codata.org/resources/databases/data_access/policies.html
Information on the history of database protection

to name a few.
The 2012 Conference will be about open data and science.
