Hi all,

Yesterday the Irish Government published its new eGovernment plan for 2012-2015 - http://egovstrategy.gov.ie/ <http://egovstrategy.gov.ie/>

The plan includes a number of commitments to data release and data sharing including a section on re-use of data - http://egovstrategy.gov.ie/ensure-that-public-service-data-is-available-for-re-use/

Among the actions outlined in the plan, all public bodies will be required to release Open Data and to adopt a release by default approach. In addition, data released in reports. etc. in closed formats will be required to be released in parallel in open formats. There are also a number of actions to improve data sharing across the public sector.

The eGovernment Plan is closely aligned with the Public Service Reform Plan announced last November - http://reformplan.per.gov.ie/files/2012/01/Public-Service-Reform-28112011.pdf

Significantly, the eGovernment Plan requires all public bodies to produce detailed eGovernment Plans outlining how they will implement the various actions and they will also be required to report on progress in implementing these plans.

Regards,

Dominic.
