Dear colleague,

For the first time at HICSS (Hawaii International Conference on System
Sciences see http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu/), the e-government track (see
http://faculty.washington.edu/jscholl/hicss48/index.html) will host a
minitrack on smart cities.

Smart city is a fuzzy concept, not well defined in theoretical researches
nor in empirical projects. Several definitions, different from each other,
have been proposed. However, all agree on the fact that a smart city is an
urban space that tends to improve the daily life (work, school,) of its
citizens (broadly defined). This is an improvement from different points of
view: social, political, economic, and governmental. Finally, although smart
cities are based on ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), people
(with their knowledge, habits, experiences, culture and behavior) remain at
the heart of concerns.

This mini-track aims at discussing trends, challenges, case studies and best
practices, theories and methodologies in the field of smart cities. Topics
and research areas include but are not limited to:

Smart City definition
Smart City case studies
e-Government in urban space (smart government)
Smart City and emerging technologies (big data, open data, social media &
networks,...)
Smart City and decision-making
Smart City and security
Smart City and knowledge management
Smart City evaluation & performance measurement
Smart Cities critical success factors
Smart City and open innovation
Managing the Smart City

I would very much like to have you onboard and therefore I encourage you to
send a paper on e-Justice on or before June 15. You can find more
information about the mini track at
http://faculty.washington.edu/jscholl/hicss48/smart-cities.html and about
authors¹ instructions at
http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu/hicss_48/authorinstructions.htm.

I look forward to seeing you at HICSS next january 2015!!!!

Kind regards,

Mila Gascó
