The Applied Computational Linguistics (ACoLi) Lab at the Institute for Computer Science, Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany, is offering one position for an

Associate researcher (PhD or PostDoc-level)
on Computational Semantics, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (all gender welcome)
(pay scale: E13 TV-G-U, half-time)

available from 01.01.2020 for 24 months. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

The successful candidate will be part of an international and interdisciplinary team working on challenging research questions in computational semantics and natural language processing. The ACoLi lab at Goethe University Frankfurt, headed by Prof. Dr. Christian Chiarcos, is among the leading research groups working at the intersection of Knowledge Representation/AI and Natural Language Processing.

The position is part of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Action „Prêt-à-LLOD. Ready-to-use Multilingual Linked Language Data for Knowledge Services across Sectors“. In close collaboration with national and international partners, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of multilingual, web-based language processing services in an effort to constite a multilingual next generation internet. In particular, (s)he will

develop novel technologies for Transforming, Linking and Processing Language Resources and Language Data by means of machine learning and web technologies (Linked Data), and
contribute to specifications and best practices to facilitate Language Data and Service Sustainability in a web-based environment.
Required qualifications

Master‘s degree or equivalent in computational linguistics, computer science, linguistics or related disciplines with a strong profile in Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning or Knowledge Representation/Semantic Web
background in either distributional semantics and neural networks or in Linked Data and Semantic Web formalisms; interest in (the innovative combination of) both strands of technology
fluency in English
The following qualifications are not required but will be considered a plus

practical experience with RDF/SPARQL or graph databases
practical experience in machine learning
practical experience with Docker and/or GUI development
familiarity with Linguistic Linked Data technologies such as NIF, WebAnnotation, OLiA, or OntoLex
basic knowledge in German

Entwicklung innovativer Techniken von Transformation

Hintergrund entweder im Bereich distributionelle Semantik und neuronalen Netzen oder in Linked Data und Wissensgraphen; Interesse an (der innovativen Verbindung von) beiden Forschungsbereichen
gute Englischkenntnisse
Wünschenswerte (aber nicht notwendige) Qualifikationen

Praxiserfahrung mit RDF/SPARQL oder Graphdatenbanken
Praxiserfahrung im Bereich Maschinelles Lernen
Praxiserfahrung mit Docker und/oder GUI-Entwicklung
Kenntnis von Linguistic-Linked-Data-Technologien wie NIF, WebAnnotation, OLiA, oder OntoLex
Grundkenntnisse in Deutsch
