Oxford Open Science: Open Science in Developing Countries

Oxford e-Research Centre, 7 Keble Road
Wed 25 September, 19:00-20:30
Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/210816602429012/

Open and collaborative approaches have the potential to radically increase
the visibility, validation and relevance of scientific research. However,
little research has been conducted into these asserted benefits and in what
contexts they might be realised. Can open science approaches benefit
researchers in the global south? How can the release of knowledge as a
public good be weighed against protection of indigenous rights? Can greater
participation of citizens in the planning and conduct of research increase
its usefulness in addressing development goals?

Jenny Molloy will discuss the outcomes of a joint project between Open
Knowledge Foundation and the OpenUCT initiative which is working towards a
research agenda on this theme. Participants are invited to contribute their
own thoughts and suggestions of questions to be addressed.
