Dear All

See below for a summary of key points from the WG meeting on Dec 1 2010,
I've listed here the main updates, followed by a list of things you could
contribute to and any interesting events that are coming up. If you'd like
more detailed updates on projects or to view the full minutes, visit
http://okfnpad.org/sciencewg-meetings

-------------------
Updates:

Panton Principles:
- Panton Papers are in progress and the BMC is willing to publish these once
complete.
- Further publicity and info such as a web banner and PP related podcasts
are in progress.

WG Community:
- The home of the Open Science WG is here http://science.okfn.org/ and we
hope to have more content posted soon as well as links to the Wiki and other
relevant pages.
- There should soon be a Google Calendar for all Open Science related
meetings and events of interest - more details on how to contribute to both
the blog and calendar pending.

Planned Events:
- An Open Data in Science event is being planned for February 2011 in
Oxford.
- There may be scope for organising an Open Data in Science Workshop in the
future.
- Speaker suggestions are needed for the OKCon science stream (see Things to
Do below)
- See OKF/Open Science Related Events below for confirmed events.

IsItOpen Requests
- Template letter by Heather and Peter can be found at
http://okfnpad.org/isitopenLetters
- All requests have been answered and Heather has blogged about the results
and tips/lessons learned at http://science.okfn.org/
- Might be time to pause and consider the process, maybe tips/lessons
learned could be fed back into system.

------------------
Things to Do!

1) Heather Piwowar would like to draw people's attention to a community hub
for progress notes on tool support for tracking citations to nontraditional
products. Please contribute if you have suggestions for how to move this
forward! http://bit.ly/cFgi94 <http://bit.ly/cFgi94>
2) The annual OKF conference OKCon will be taking place again next year and
we are looking for suggestions of speakers to invite for a science themed
stream - check the pad for current suggestions and add your own.
3) Make some Is It Open? requests! For more information see Heather's blog
posts at http://science.okfn.org/ and visit http://www.isitopendata.org/ to
make your request.
4) Iain Hrynaszkiewicz at BMC is continuing to draft open data goals
following on from the BMC open data statement. He would like input and
suggestions from the WG on documenting the steps to implementing the BMC
open data statement. Look out for future emails from Iain regarding this and
please contribute.
