[open-science] Interactive webinar on open review and pre-prints

Dear all,

This interactive webinar might be of interest to some of you on the list as
it covers some open science themes.

Next week is Peer Review Week <https://peerreviewweek.wordpress.com/>, and
while there has been much discussion on the value that traditional closed
forms of peer review add, things are changing rapidly with lots of new
models and platforms attempting to open this system (see the monster
<http://dx.doi.org/10.12688/f1000research.12037.1> multi-disciplinary
perspective that Jon Tennant and many in this list helped put together
summarizing these). From that perspective, AcademicKarma and *GigaScience*
(COI: my employer) are hosting an interactive webinar on Monday 11th
September (4pm CET) discussing the value that preprints and open peer
review can add to the transparency, accountability and speed of the
process.

The webinar will start with a panel including a broad range of
practitioners including Prachee Avasthi (Kansas University Medical Center
based ambassador for ASAPbio), Chris Gorgolewski (Stanford based open
science and open peer review advocate), Lachlan Coin (founder of the
Academic Karma platform for open peer review of preprints) and myself (open
peer review evangelist and user at *Gigascience*). We’ll then open the
discussion up to questions and online discussion.
