Hi all!
There is resent study about environmentally harmfull gov. subsidies in
Finland (in finnish) done by the Finnish Environmental Institute. The
results are published as pdf (:D), and i made a quick and dirty translation
for your convinience. The conclusions of the study are following:
- All sectors summed up, there is 3-4 billion € of environmentally harmfull
subsidies in Finland. Most of it tax related.
- Lowered tax rate for energy intensive industry, peat as fuel and
electricy use in industry and greenhouses has the most impact in energy
sector
-Transportation is an other great energy user, commuting by car is
encouraged greatly by tax deductions on commuting expenses and mileage
allowances.
This study din't took into account the investments made in
dirty/greenenergy which of course again makes a whole other story. This
study in Finland was conduted this spring, but there has not been any
discussions on how to proceed with this information and which of the
subsidies should be reduced. The political issues behind these kinds of
decisions are hard. What comes to the data expedition. Already visualizing
this information and mixing with eg gov. budget infomation would be a
helpful thing.
