[OpenDesign] research on application of open design processes

Hey guys, thanks for your responses!
Nice to hear about the EU project! I think it is an interesting and quite
ambitous attempt. We are working on something very modest compared to the
goals of that project. However I do envision our platform moving into such
a direction in the future, incorporating technologies that improve online
collaboration.
At this moment I would say our first goal is to create an environment in
which online open design projects could thrive, more than finding the
perfect technological solution which I think is a huge challenge.

@Jorge; I also think the multidisciplinary nature and complexity of
projects and sometimes asks for very specific solutions and tools, so
trying to incorporate everything into one platform solving all needs might
be inpossible, or ineffective at the least. Thanks also for sharing the
links. I can see a bit of the similar direction with the OpeningDesign
project, different approach though.
Love the wikihouse project!

@Kat; I agree that often there is a huge need to combine the virtual with
the physical, and that in that space very interesting things happen. We are
in touch with some folks in the maker community in Amsterdam, discussing
how they can leverage online possibilities.

@Atilla: thanks for the link! Nice to hear from you again, how are things
in Budapest?

Maybe I can leave you guys with an interesting question:
Do you think the biggest need is for technological sollutions? e.g. 'git'
for 3d models / more tangible communication than skype and chat (such as
the EU project asks)?
or:
Is the first step to grow this movement into an ecosystem, by connecting
communities and platforms for example, and lowering the entry barriers to
connect with this movement? And will the technology then follow?

Keep me update if you come across research or examples of projects that
point towards necessary features of an open design environment!
Thanks!

Bram Geenen
