[Openglam_members] Next OpenGLAM call: Thursday 18:00

Hi everybody,

thanks again to all who could find the time in their schedules to join in,
and apologies for my washing machine.

The notes can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yCJUVrTsbnSenuQA0tGQ0rugEwitlyiwATJbIrJpQEs/edit

Quick summary:

- We touched on the growth on the group and how to manage. Consensus was
that this is something to keep in mind, but not a real issue at the moment.
The minimum requirement of asking a potential new partner to attend the
monthly calls and write a blog post about the situation in their country
was perceived as a good threshold.
- The question was raised how to cooperate better with other groups. We're
kind of doing it already and many of us have multiple hats on. Therefore
good to be clear about identity.
- PD vs CC-BY - a big discussion on the mailing list, and certainly not the
end of it. I think this is the right time to take this on and in the case
of the Wellcome to convince them that PD is the way to go so they can serve
as an example to others. Advisory board members Paul Keller and Jill
Cousins will pay a visit to them to talk about this.
- We need the case studies written down about PD licensing and the
experiences for example around the argument of losing income. I think it
would be so great if we can have a series of blog posts about this on
OpenGLAM and other platforms. I will visit the Rijksmuseum next Monday for
an interview about their steps towards PD and I would encourage everybody
to do the same if possible! British Library for example? Do we know of
anyone in Sweden to visit the national gallery? Merete's institution?
- I btw just had a look at some first preliminary results of the large
ENUMERATE survey (1300 respondents). Institutions were asked to value the
different reasons for digitisation. 'For academic research' scored highest
with an 8.5. 'for commercial use' scored lowest with a 3.2. So the
commercial argument seems not very relevant for many.
- OKFestival is coming up! And there will be a culture program. Save the
date 15-18 July 2014. and maybe a bit more for pre-workshops, satellite
events and what not.
- CC Toolkits. Creative Commons will work on toolkits for publishing open
data in different domains. Culture is one of them. In three weeks there
will be a booksprint in Warsaw to make the first set of materials. You can
help! Dorota will be in touch with you about this soon.
- A new OpenGLAM local page will be there soon to see all the regional
contacts in a glance.

Actions:

- Split the Open Collections into PD and other open licenses (LP)

Thanks again, really enjoyed the call.

Cheers,

Joris
