[Openglam_members] Next call

Hi all

Just finding time on a Friday afternoon to finally catch up with some Open GLAM activity. Apologies on the silence from this part of the world!

It is good to get the update about the status of the Open GLAM group. I think the suggestion of the “show and tell” style of presentations is a good one, and I would be happy to contribute with some of DigitalNZ’s work if this plan is still going forward.

Many thanks
Thomasin

Thanks for the clear answer. Curious what the future will bring!

Hi Maarten,

Yes, it is a pity indeed. The funding situation has been more difficult for most GLAM initiatives recently it seems.
Worth mentioning is also that other working groups do not receive core funding as well, so we are not the only one. They do see OpenGLAM as a working group with a relatively high degree of maturity, which will hopefully provide a sufficiently fruitful basis for the group to move forward.

best, Lieke

Makes sens, sorry to hear Open Knowledge Central doesn’t see it as a prio. Is there a reasoning behind it?

Hi everybody,

Thanks for being able to attend. I thought it was a really productive call. Lieke has covered it all in the notes but to summarise:

- Open Knowledge Central will not see OpenGLAM as a priority from now on. There is no project related to GLAM and therefore they can't put any paid work in the working group
- They can offer hosting of the website, mailing list etc.
- We feel that as long as there is no common goal to work towards to together, like an event, there is no point in monthly calls with just the people of the members group.
- We do see value in OpenGLAM as a place where interesting things, events, projects, research etc is being shared.

- For that reason we will experiment with opening up the OpenGLAM calls in a monthly sort of 'show and tell' kind of style. We will ask people working on interesting things to briefly talk about their work and participants can ask questions etc via Google Hangout. This will be open to everybody on the OpenGLAM main mailing list. Joris en Helena will work on the first session.

If I missed anything let me know!

Cheers,

Joris

Hi all

I have to give my apologies for the call tonight/this morning, as I've got a severe cold and have lost my voice. I'm sorry to miss this discussion, but I look forward to reading the notes and will contribute my thoughts via email/google doc.

Thanks
Thomasin

Hi all,

It has been too long since we had our last call! It would be great to catch up with you soon, and discuss what has been going in your country, and how we can continue working together this year, also in light of the recent discussions we had on the role and value of the working group.

I've started a Doodle here, hopefully we can find a date and time that most of us can join:
