Hi,
On May 2 we're organising a hack day in Brussels, where we'll work to
open up on the EU Procurement register [1].
Procurement data has a few possible direct linkages to spending data such as:
- Why do some big suppliers appear in contract data and not in
spending data (ie. no-bid contracts)?
- How can contract data fill blank spots when spending data is not
available (ie. publicly owned companies)?
Some work has already been done:
Raw data from scraping and (partial) parsing by Joost Cassee:
http://opented.org/getthedata/
Repos from Open Interest hack days [2] in London in November:
* https://github.com/opented
* https://github.com/rgrp/opented
A NodeJS scrapper to parse contract award winners and contract amounts
as well as a Python extractor for uncompressing html files.
* https://github.com/miha-stopar/sandbox
Additionally some work was recently added on #opencontracting based on
data from UK, Columbia among others:

Glad to hear your thoughts and hope see some of you there!
