On accounting terminology, you seem to be using terms
a little differently than I am used to.

I think:

Posting or ledger entry: your basic line item
Transaction: a collection of related postings that balance
Ledger: the collection of all postings in an account
Journal or General Ledger: the collection of all postings

I believe Journal is the UK term and General Ledger is used
in North America.
