Colleagues,
For the UK, may I suggest a new application - Government Interrogating Spending tool: http://www.gist.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/

It is in beta format and not sure how much data is contained within the search.

There is also COINS: http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/coins . This system has now been replaced by OSCAR: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/oscar-publishing-data-from-the-database

here<https://docs.google.com/a/okfn.org/forms/d/1vi2LNysNsu346-X8H5oIp00OUjDFsiR_pYcQSWrQAiY/viewform>to
receive an invite for the Google Hangout. You can also simply join the Google Hangout or the webchat, when we drop the link on the mailing list Wednesday before the call.

*What is on the agenda?*

- Test-run our new app!

Come and have a look at the first prototype of a brand new application that we at OpenSpending are creating in collaboration with the data journalism agency J++ <http://jplusplus.org/>. The application is intended to help citizens understand spending. We are particularly thrilled to show this as we hope that members across the community will fork and deploy it locally in new languages and currencies.

- Help us put suggest improvements to IMFs Fiscal Transparency Code:
A few weeks back Marc Joffe took up the initiative to pitch the first notes<https://docs.google.com/a/okfn.org/document/d/1mKbLL11XA9uDGRxH981BZUtURW3kty7Bb2iTvCJU7_Q/edit>for
a response to the consultation on IMFs Fiscal Transparency Code. We will add more to the consultation and are eager to have your input.

I hope to see you at the hangout!

If you are not able to make it, fear not. The feedback for the app will be circulated after the call. As for the IMF consultation you can already contribute by heading over to the google doc<https://docs.google.com/a/okfn.org/document/d/1mKbLL11XA9uDGRxH981BZUtURW3kty7Bb2iTvCJU7_Q/edit>.

Best,
Anders

Hi all,

Over at School of Data, Milena and Michael are currently looking to explore government spending data during the financial crisis (2006-2012). I would be really interested to hear if any of you can suggest good data sources to share on this topic!

For sources on government spending data, I would suggest:
- Eurostat: The link for the section on government finances is available here (with 2012 being the most recent figures):
http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/portal/page/portal/government_finance_statistics/data/database
- OECD/IMF: Their annual reports should be useful as well.
- Other?

Do any of you have links or sources to share for tracing government spending during the crisis?

Best,
Anders

All,

I wanted to give a quick update on the translation sprint of the OpenSpending guide<https://trello.com/c/abfAVgBC/14-openspending-guide-translation-sprint-august-9th-to-august-23rd>
that
we set out for a week ago.

This weekend Ana reached a near completion of the *Spanish version of the guide*<https://docs.google.com/a/okfn.org/document/d/1sl9Fvtbp5y-XDnY6cosZb5CJQw-oAD_zs1kVqBovk14/edit?usp=drive_web>.
A
big congratulations on this achievement! You can still help out polishing the Spanish version by translating the image texts - simply add your self to this ticket on Trello<https://trello.com/c/CPA3l7PV/58-images-pictures-of-the-spanish-text-need-to-be-translated>
.

We are also excited about the signups to translate the OpenSpending guide into Nepali, Romanian, Finnish and Hebrew: thanks to Prakash, Victoria, Henri and Mor from the community. You can still lend a hand to these amazing translators or add your own language by joining the translation sprint Trello ticket<https://trello.com/c/abfAVgBC/14-openspending-guide-translation-sprint-august-9th-to-august-23rd>.
