Hi all,

My colleague Atanas has built a searchable version of the database of US
government contracts recently obtained by Sunlight Foundation:

https://bivol.bg/bivol_sunlight_search

This is based on the 13 years of data published here:
http://sunlightfoundation.com/blog/2013/11/21/a-foia-victory-for-sunlight-and-spending-transparency/

Then the database was indexed with Sphinx and we built a simple search
interface on PHP.

You can search by any keyword in the description. To search a particular
field you need to use the following syntax:

@pop_country DE (will retrieve only the records from Germany)

@posted_date 2013 (will retrieve only the records from 2013)

So far we didn’t index all of the fields, only the date, the country,
the title and the description. Please, send suggestions as of the fields
you need indexed and searchable. The full set of fields is displayed
after the description in the individual record view.

If anybody would like a database dump to import elsewhere, please get in
touch.

Meanwhile, we have a number of journalists looking over the data in
search of stories about US spending in Eastern Europe.

best,
Dan
