[OpenSpending] Using bulk farmsubsidy data & the farmsubsidy API

Hi all, Tim,

I just got a question from Tim about the use of the bulk download
option<http://data.farmsubsidy.org/>at
farmsubsidy.openspending.org, and thought this would be relevant for you
all on the list.

OpenSpending is collaborating with the Farmsubsidy project to host a
database with payments to EU farmers under the Common Agricultural Policy
from across all EU countries.

You can access the farmsubsidy data in three ways:
1) Search the site: farmsubsidy.openspending.org
2) Download the data for each of the EU countries in bulk:
http://data.farmsubsidy.org/
3) Use the farm subsidy API:
https://github.com/openspending/Farm-Subsidy/blob/master/web/api/templates/documentation/search.html

###Download the data
You can download the data from any EU country via this
page<http://data.farmsubsidy.org/>
 as tar.bz2 <http://data.farmsubsidy.org/AT.tar.bz2> files. When you have
downloaded the data, you need to unzip the data.

When you have unzipped the data, you will have three text files available
named:
- payment.txt: listing the actual payments
- recipient.txt: listing the receiving farmers
- scheme.txt : referring to the various schemes under the Common
Agricultural Policy

### Using the Farmsubsidy API
Farmsubsidy has an API, which you can use:

We are eager to see some dataviz examples from the farmsubsidy API. Felix
recently published this great piece about how to use the OpenSpending
API<http://community.openspending.org/2013/08/28/d3-sankey/> (which
is different from the farmsubsidy API).
