Dear Rufus,

Many thanks for getting in touch last week, and profuse apologies for
the delay in replying: I’m afraid that King’s College email was down for
pretty much the whole of the week. As promised, here are Daniel
Leech-Wilkinson’s contact details: you can mail him on
<obfuscated-mail-me-if-you-want-this>, and his office phone number
here is 020 7848 2576. (He’s unlikely to be around much until September,
but is picking up and answering mails.) As CHARM’s Associate Director,
he will be the one to decide the scope of CHARM’s proposed digitisation
project, which is scheduled to run from 2007 to 2009. The source
material used will be King’s College’s own archive of some 150,000 78rpm
discs, though the question of what repertoire to digitise is one on
which we very much welcome ideas and input.

Regarding the Gowers Review, and CHARM’s position on sound recording
copyright extension, I think it was David Patmore who was most involved
with that: <obfuscated-mail-me-if-you-want-it>.

As well as the digitisation project, CHARM is also compiling an online
discography of, among other things, the early HMV catalogues, based on
data supplied by Alan Kelly, Mike Gray and others. It’s likely to be a
while before this becomes reliably and permanently available, but,
again, we always welcome ideas for additional discographical sources.

Very best wishes,

Edward
