Subject: [pd-discuss] Last COMMUNIA WG6 meetings: Turin, Amsterdam,
Berlin
FYI below is a quick overview of the remaining COMMUNIA meetings for
the working group on 'mapping the public domain' [1] (of which I am
co-lead) which heavily intersects with OKF WG on public domain [2].
The overviews of the remaining events are copied (with start of draft
agendas) at:

All the best,
Jonathan

---------- Forwarded message ----------
### Turin, 1st July 2010
This meeting will be an opportunity for several WG6 members, and other
interested parties, to discuss the current state of play with the
public domain manifesto, the public domain calculators and WG6 policy
recommendations. While we want to provide an opportunity for
discussion and activity around WG6 for those attending the final
conference, several key members will not be able to make this date,
and we propose that the next full meeting for the working group should
take place later in the month.
### Amsterdam, 16th July 2010
At this meeting WG6 members will do a detailed review of current work
on the public domain calculators -- including recent developments at
Europeana, work at the Open Knowledge Foundation and Severine
Dusollier's report for WIPO. We will discuss the future of work in
this area, with a view to consolidating specific recommendations for
the Communia project. In particular we will consider policy
recommendations related to copyright in Europe that may come out of
insights deriving from the research on the public domain calculators.
We will also discuss how we can move from provision for calculations
for specific works, to automated calculation based on bibliographic
metadata.
### Berlin, 7th October 2010
In the last meeting of WG6 we will finalise work on the
recommendations, which will include clear and detailed suggestions
about future activities related to calculating what is in the public
domain in different jurisdictions. In particular we will discuss
policy recommendations related to how bibliographic data is shared,
and to what extent EU research and funding programmes may be able to
support open bibliographic metadata -- which will facilitate automated
calculation of which works are in the public domain in a given
country.
