a) wohin soll Green fuehren? Es laesst vieles beim Alten.
b) die $100 Mio Grenze laesst  vieles außen vor.

Hi everyone,

Thrilled to share that our public access legislation in the United States, the Fair Access to Science and Technology Research Act (FASTR), has just passed the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, paving the way for it to be considered before the full United States Senate.

Many US-based members of the OpenCon community have done key work behind the scenes to build enough to support to get the bill in front of the full committee and now onto the full Senate.  The voice of students and early career researchers was important in getting the bill this far and will be essential as it moves forward.

Just now, the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) voted unanimously via voice vote on S. 779, the Fair Access to Science and Technology Research (FASTR) Act, which will now move it to the full Senate for consideration. This marks the first time the Senate has acted on a government-wide policy ensuring public access to the results of publicly funded research, and is an important step towards codifying the progress made by the 2013 White House OSTP Directive.

This vote is a direct result of your efforts -- writing letters of support, making calls, tweeting and making it known to the HSGAC members that you supported the FASTR Act. Thank you all so very much for everything that you and your organizations did to make this happen!

We'd like to ask for your continued help with advancing this bill. As you know, this was a contentious process, with opponents of FASTR pressing members of Senate aggressively to drop their support for the legislation. It's particularly important that the sponsors of FASTR - and those who helped to advance the bill - hear from our community to know that their efforts have not gone unnoticed. We will be running a Twitter campaign thanking all of the HSGAC Members and our champions for their support under the hashtag #MoveFASTR, so please retweet! If you are located in a state where one of your Senators was directly involved in today's mark-up, we will be following up individually.
