Hi folks

Glad that this seems and interesting topic, here's a
few comments (or maybe a couple are meta-comments..):

1. It's probably useful to think about the structure
and organisation of such a thing and afterwards think
about tools. For example, (I believe, may not be
shared) it should be pretty much self-sustaining
rather than grant funded.

2. That would mean that it would have a revenue model
somewhere, perhaps a mixture of on-line ads and
pay-for-nice-book (as I've said there's a couple of
companies that do that now..). Pdfs, printouts should
remain 'free' or at-cost though.

3. One incremental way would be to populate a media
wiki (rather than a rats-nest-wiki) as a central hub.
The 'documents' would be spokes. But
integration/overiew documents would be needed as well
(often that's the hardest part for someone starting a
subject). That's probably not the only way though.

4. A controversial thought is: there'd be specific
hardware recommendations (for example, easily
flashable routers with open-source friendly
companies)...that's also a possible revenue area via
sponsorship.

5. There'd probably also eventually need to be some
sort of governance. That mean could mean a foundation
of some kind, probably in the style of other large
open source projects.

6. Some of the organisation/classification probably
belongs in a layer model. Things that deal with
electrons (lowest) up to applications for schools
(highest), but (to repeat myself) the integration
aspects (what will play nice together) are very
important.

Best regards Hugh
