For those of you who mentioned an interest in bringing GEO to wsfii in
Africa, i think the following is a good high level newsletter about
national spatial data infrastructures (SDI). SDIs are normally a
governmental or quasi governmental organization comprised of national
mapping, statistical, defence, and evironmental etc. agencies working
together to collects, manage, store, develop applications and
disseminate spatial data (maps, satellite images, demographics,
geological info etc.)

Africa (SDI-Africa) newsletter
The Spatial Data Infrastructure - Africa (SDI-Africa) newsletter is a
free, electronic publication for people interested in georgraphic
information systems, remote sensing, and data management issues
in Africa, such as access to public sector data and technology
interoperability. SDI-Africa aims to raise awareness and provide
useful information to strengthen national SDI initiatives and support
synchronization of regional activities. Each month, the newsletter
highlights recent activities, provides information about available data
and tools, and includes notices about upcoming training,
employment opportunities, and events.
