I perused through these portals this morning. A really good start and
might be very helpful research and education tool.
*
India Water Portal*
http://indiawaterportal.org/

The data are analyzed in house and it does not look like data are
downloadable beyond copy and paste. One can also not get a table with
all the data points, coordinates and attributes and feed these into ones
own GIS. The tool is easy to use and does make water and associated
meteorological data more publicly available. There are maps, charts and
tables as well as numerous attributes to select from. The data seem to
span between 1901 and 2002. Some of the representations are illegible,
such as the longitudinal data representing mean precipitation at each
point for that entire time period. I guess these bugs will get worked
out in time with input from the public.

*India Energy Portal*
http://www.indiaenergyportal.org/* *created by The Energy Resource
Institute http://www.teriin.org/index.php
The energy statistics page provides access to tons of maps and charts
that are quite good. Themes are explained by sector and initiatives.
Plenty of reports and information are readily made available.

both of these initiatives were found in a newly released National
Knowledge Commission Report:

"/*PEOPLE'S ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE CAN TRANSFORM INDIA'S POTENTIAL" NATIONAL KNOWLEDGE COMMISSION REPORTS TO THE NATION PRIME MINISTER LAUNCHES FIRST TWO KNOWLEDGE PORTALS*/ (http://pib.nic.in/release/release.asp?relid=24026)

Anyone hear of an India IT portal with all the isps, infrastructure hubs, flows, broadband distribution etc. Does such a thing exist?

Cheers
Tracey
