2nd Preparational Meeting towards the implementation of the SIMBA OPEN
SUMMIT (10-day wireless roadshow & wsfii africa 2007 summit)
june 09, 2007 at Ghananet Cafe, Accra
*OPENING*
The meeting began at 10:55GMT with a prayer by Mr. Godfred Prebbie.
*ATTENDANCE *
The following personalities were present at the meeting. They are;

Mr. Kafui A. Prebbie - Country Director, OVF- Ghana

Mr. Ibrahim Musah - Executive Secretary GINKS
3.
Mr. Godfred Prebbie - Projects & Finance, Manager, OVF – Ghana
4.
Mr. Gideon Amoah - Project Coordinator, Wireless Ghana
5.
Miss Shine Agbevivi - Administrative Assistant OVF – Ghana
*REVIEW OF TASK SCHEDULES *
The task schedules for the three partners for “*Simpa Open Summit”,*
discussed during the preliminary planning session held on May 20, 2007
was reviewed.
*OVF – Ghana*
The OVF – Ghana Project Manager reported of their ability to complete
their task schedules. Thus, they have;
1.
arranged for venues for the summit and workshops.
2.
requested 2 wireless instructors and working on their
schedules/availability.
3.
sent workshop details for the Wiki to be edited
4.
developed draft memorandum of understanding
5.
secured workshop space
6.
designed Simpa Open Summit letterheads
*WIRELESS GHANA*
Mr. Gideon Amoah announced that, Wireless Ghana is
1.
working on sponsorship on antennas and equipment for Roadshow.
2.
arranging for two instructors for the summit and suggested the
provision of formal invitation letters.
3.
ready for the site survey in Winneba on 20^th /22^nd June, 2007.
*GINKS-Ghana Information and Knowledge Sharing*
The Executive Secretary of GINKS, Mr. Ibrahim Musah, stated his
inability to work on most of his task schedules except that he is in the
process of talking to the Country Manager of I. I.C.D and GIFTEL for
sponsorship.
He related his inability to contact the 2 wireless instructors to the
fact that he does not know the topics to be discussed.
To this, Mr. Kafui A. Prebbie gave out the topics as spelt out on the Wiki;
(i) Sustainability of ICT
(ii) Capacity building
(iii) Band width optimization
a. Introduction
2.
Use of open software
(iv) WiFi and Voice Over IP
(v) Social impact/ICT strategies
(vi) Economic sustainability of WiFi
*DATE FOR WORKSHOP*
After several deliberations and considerations in relation to;
1.
affordability
2.
availability of halls at U.E.W
3.
local participation (Ghanaians for local capacity building).
4.
substantial number of participants,
the workshop was scheduled for *1*^*st* * – 10*^*th* * August , 2007.*
This entails that only few WSFII members will be at the workshop but
halls will be available at cheaper rates for local participants.
*DATE FOR WSFIIAFRICA 2007 SUMMIT*
No specific date was stated for the summit but it was decided to be held
sometime in September/October 2007 to ensure maximum participation of
WSFII members. This is to be suggested to WSFII members for them to
determine a date conducive to them.
*FEES FOR WORKSHOP*
The following are the agreed fees for the workshop to support local
organisational cost.
*PACKAGES*

a. Individual - US$150
b. Corporate - US$250
2.
Registration and Meals
a. Individual - US$100
b. Corporate - US$200
*NOTE*
1.
Meals include two coffee breaks and lunch.
2.
Accommodation is on UEW Campus with two persons to a room; this is
a student hostel type of accommodation.

The following groups are to be targeted:

Banks – CAL Bank, GT- Bank, Eco Bank, Inter Continental Bank etc.
2.
Communication Service Providers – Areeba, Onetouch, Kasapa, TiGo etc.

Insurance Companies

Awutu Efutu Senya District Assembly
Partners are to contact people who can serve as links to speed up the
sponsorship process. OVF-USA and WSFII members are also to spearhead
international funding mobilisation in support of the event.

*DISCUSSION OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) *
Partners discussed the draft MOU which was accepted by the whole house.
It was nonetheless to be edited and forwarded to partners.
*TASK SCHEDULES*
The new task schedules are as follows;
*A. OVF - GHANA*
1.
Prepare and mail background information to members
2.
Forward sample letterheads to partners
3.
Advise GINKS on the printing of the letterheads.
4.
Update OVF website on SOS
5.
Remind partners of next meeting
6.
Lobby University to give certificate to workshop attendees.
7.
Work on accommodation at UEW halls/campuses.
*B. GINKS*
1. Send draft sponsorship documents to administrative assistant.
2. Print out M.O.U. and sign first copy
3. Work on previous uncompleted task schedules.
4. Print letterheads.
5. Update GINKS website on SOS.
*C. WIRELESS - GHANA*
1.
Inspect the venue for workshop at the WODiV.
2.
Design and draw network configuration diagram.
3.
Present required equipment list to OVF – Ghana.
4.
Inspect the Meraki wireless equipment on arrival.
5.
Work on all previous uncompleted task schedules.
6.
Update WG website on SOS.
