Elluminate is the system that I use and once I had someone login from Africa
at 28.8 modem - although we were only using speech not video or the www or
multimedia. So it does allow for low bandwidth. The PowerPoint slides will
turn slowly so just need to remember that.

I agree Krishna. 

We are not yet at the tipping point to bridge the digital divide but
definitely there is cause for optimism for some of the work being done to
ingeniously use low impact, low bandwidth, low power technologies.

Yet in my view it is not so much the technologies themselves but how we use
them. So my thought is that the ultimate disruptive technology is the system
or process for integrating them as part of a comprehensive ICT4D approach
that can be replicated to other regions rapidly.

Aside from Asif's application, some of us have been using Gizmo and Skype
for the monthly conference Laura organised. I must admit my own bandwidth
limitations have made this a less than enjoyable session for me, and the
unreliability of the connection itself makes it hard to actually be sure to
attend. 

All the more reason to fervently want broadband for all. And an application
that will make it easier to get a grip on - and participate in! - all the
different things happening around the world. So far, in my humble opinion,
lists, conversations, wikis and conferences don't even begin to make the
cut.
