Hi
Am facing some strange issues with our broadband internet. Served by BSNL
India.
First a range of the DSL / ADSl modems have partially functioning ports.
Second one of the devices allows only some sites to work (like all google
sites)
I have two adsl routers
The first a ZTE ZXDSL 531B 4 ethernet port and wifi router - this allows
only some sites to be accessed. It seems like a known problem.
The second a Dlink -DSL- 2520U has a malfunctioning (single) ethernet port
but its usb port continues to work.
***
Its a Catch 22 situation - the ZXDSL routers allows wifi and limited
internet - but many folks (4 of us) can use it to access gmail , google
news, some banking sites, some government sites and some others _- there is
no pattern, _ ihave changed dns' both on the modem as well on local
machines but it does not help.
The Dlink router allows only one person - sitting really close to a short
usb cable to use the net.
**
It is possible to get a replacement but our location is such that the
replacement modem will take atleast 10 days to reach.
So temporarily was wondering if the following is a workable solution
A laptop running Linux (Linux mint 15) is connected to the Dlink 2520U via
the usb cable.
The internet connection is shared (how is what i aim to ask) and via a
ethernet cable i feed a linksys wrt54gl wifi router.
If this is a workable solution may i request the following
1. If yes, How to i get a laptop that is accessing the internet via the usb
connection to pass on the internet via an ethernet cable to the linksys
router
If its not possible - would you have any suggestions
Would be grateful for your suggestions
***
Its possible that tomorrow I may sit next to the dlink router and download
the openwrt version for the zte zxdsl router - but that will take some
time. and a lot more time to install and configure the device with i guess
a chance of bricking the device all together.
However if someone can google drive the said files and instructions maybe i
can try and install them. I think the firmware upgrade is in two phases -
first to install some cfe file and then install the openwrt firmware
**
I have another router that seems to not work
which is also a Dlink GLB-502T-V2
I don't think there is any openwrt firmware for this - if there is, then
am willing to give this one a full go because as of now its just a piece of
junk.
Again if there is , may i request, that the firmware (and instructions) be
google drived (as it seems i can access that)
**
thanks and looking forward to your suggestions and advice
Ram
