The default ini file (that you get from the make-config command) now
contains commented out example values for the settings you need to
enable, which is a small improvement. Other than that I'm not aware of
any plans to refactor this, although I agree a lot of people seem to
have trouble with it, making it 'just work' would certainly be an
improvement.
