[ckan-dev] Connecting Ckan to Oracle databases

Youssef,

As you know, I am searching a solution like you have explained.

By the way, I was wondering if using the CKAN Geoserver extension could be a solution for what I have to do. I mean, with Geoserver you can publish different schemas from a spatial database. Then, I guess that I could configure a CKAN harvester collecting the information of these tables and adding at the same time some metadata description. In that moment I could get my purpose because I only need to inform which tables I have in my Oracle DB.

It is only an idea but, could be helpful to our purpose?

It would be much better to avoid installing Geoserver and its CKAN extension. The best option would be to have another pure CKAN extension for publish tables and views from databases. In my case, It also would be perfect having a webservice giving poll information and updates as number of records created/updated/deleted.

Does anyone another suggestion?

Thank you.

Hello Youssef,

I'm not aware of extensions that already do what you're asking, but CKAN will let you search any metadata you load.

I have a few questions for you: Do you want to be able to search the contents of larger documents or just descriptions? How many possible results would there be in total? How many different types of records are you searching? Does your web service let you poll for updates (just records created/updated/deleted in a certain time)?
