I would also prefer that approach, assuming that there is a significant
number of installations that use tracking.

That sounds too complicated for my taste. I like the idea of separating the
data collection from its display, but rather than splitting them over
multiple extensions I'd prefer to have a single extension with basic UI
functionality. Users with more specialised needs can then create their own
extensions based on that.


Something to keep in mind: I'm using an external tracker solution (Piwik in
my case) for page analytics. While it doesn't offer the same functionality
as CKAN's tracking there is a significant overlap. A potential redesign of
CKAN's tracking therefore should consider how it relates to such external
solutions.
