One more question: the €5,500 target—is that what we need to raise to fully fund the position all by ourselves, or is that the gap between the existing funding and what it would cost to fully fund the position?

got me. I want more spatial features, publishing data out of a database, better harvesting and INSPIRE support

Awesome questions Kevin! And big thanks for your support.

Have a look at the job ad mentioned in the gofundme Page. This is a second ‚no strings attacjed‘ role that will be directed exclusively by the CKAN tech team.

So, they will work on anything and everything. Basically, support issues and stories.

So, time to elaborate on our backlog of stories and rank them :)

The FTE Hours per role will generate up to 2000 hours per year. Having a stable and full time team should allow us to monitor velocity and communicate with users with more confidence about upcoming features and the ETA for releases.

I have pitched to many organisations in the past with no luck. This is something new :)

20 Euro from everyone on the dev List and we‘d go two or three times over the target. The best way to help this initiative Right Now is to show our community of devs and users are behind it. That might just convince a few others with deep pockets and/or public funding that it is something to look into more closely.

Right now, this is about personal donations :) The world benefits from good people doing good things, and this is one of those times!

If anyone on the list represents an Organisation which might be willing to donate then please let me know. We can certainly arrange a time to discuss options. Formal sponsorships for the CKAN Association are very welcome.

I’d like to try to drum up interest in the initiative here too, so any information that would help me make a stronger case would be helpful. Maybe I won’t need it, but it would be good to be prepared :)

Solomon, who works with Addis Ababa university is helping to grow our core team of CKAN contributors. I've been mentoring and helping out to get things going and we already have a fully funded position advertised which has received some strong applications.

To add even extra opportunity into this initiative Solomon and I have setup a gofundme to try and raise enough to hire a second CKAN core contributor (again, fully funded for 12 months).

We hope that this will just be the start. During IODC next week I'll be shopping for commitments from various organisations and institutions to fund more such roles.

It would be amazing to have your support, even if you can only spare a little.
