Hello Friedrich,

Sorry for keeping silence but as a freelance journalist, I have always a lot of deadlines and busy work. Thanks a lot for the basic install ! Today I also have a busy day but I will try to reach you during the weekend for a skype-call (my skype : mehmet-ips).
Hope to get easily the knowledge to start running a comprehensive database on Belgium.

Regards,

Mehmet

  Hi Mehmet,

that's great news, we're of course happy to help with your effort to set up a data registry for Belgium. I've just performed a basic install of the CKAN software at http://be.ckan.net. This is only a first step, though, and I'd like to propose a call to discuss how we can further aid you both from a technical and a strategic perspective.

Perhaps both you and Jonathan have a bit of time available this thursday? I'm free most of the day and will be online at skype:friedrich.cleversoft.

  Best,

   Friedrich

    Dear CKAN members,

My name is Mehmet Koksal, I am a freelance investigative journalist working in Brussels (for Courrier international, IPS News, Alter, Parlemento,...) and specialising in local minority issues, local politics, transparency and wobbing (FOI) issues. Last week in Amsterdam, I met Jonathan Gray during a conference on data journalism. I'm now interested in starting an open data registry to gather Belgium's local/regional/federal databases and analysis. The idea is to promote investigative reporting, transparency and equal opportunity.

Today I just collected and published (on www.Parlemento.com) the last Belgium election expenditures (this database is very difficult to access as civil servants allow only 15-day access to voters, by publishing online this information I make this available to everyone for anytime)

It would be nice to get some technical help to install and start running a new Belgian CKAN registry.

Looking forward to hear from you,

    Mehmet Koksal
