[ckan-discuss] moving datasets into organisations

Further to Rufus's query, is it possible to "...moving datasets into "organizations""

We have just setup a local Ckan repository and are considering what organisations we setup for our institutes scientist's to put their data under. It appears to us that once established you can't subsequently align that dataset to an organization or shift it to another organization.

Are we missing something?

Thanks
Aaron

ckan'ers,

How does one get to http://datahub.io/dataset/history/bams from http://datahub.io/dataset/bams using the new UI?

In the old CKAN, it used to be by pressing the "history" tab.
In the new CKAN, there is an "Activity Steam" tab that doesn't show anything.

Thanks,
Tim

Hey,

it's not accessible from the UI because the new activity streams replaced the history tab. They are much easier to understand and offer a unified way to see what has happened for datasets, groups, users,...

If you have your own CKAN instance, you can add the history tab in an extension.

Cheers,
Dominik

Hi Mark,

I wanted to ask about the workflow for moving datasets into "organizations"
and having access control over them. As I understand it:

   - The only people who will be able to "administer" a dataset and e.g.
add it to an organization or change its visibility will be (system-level)
   "administrators"
   - To gain back "ownership" and control of a given dataset a user should
make a request to these system administrators (perhaps via "
   datahub at okfn.org")
   - These administrators will then act on these requests

One thing missing at the moment for this would be an administrator team
(who could also work to prevent any spamming!). Would it be worth putting
out a call for folks interesting in being a DataHub admin?

Rufus

ckan,

When I submit an edit to a dataset on datahub.io, what license am I granting for the change?

IIRC, the old datahub.io site clearly stated the license that I must agree to, right before the "submit" button.
But I don't see one in the new site.

I just need the license name for now, but it would be nice to see that message appear again on the new site.

Thanks,
Tim

I don't think the last word has been said on history yet; for example,
sometimes the history page's ability to let you compare revisions can
be useful. So things may change here, but meantime, as you note, the
history page is still available at the URL /dataset/history/.....

Also, as you say, not all the history appears in the activity stream.
I'm not sure of the reason for this, but I think it's to do with edits
made before activity streams were implemented in CKAN. It looks like
most of the edits in that dataset are quite old.
