Hi Darwin,
Thanks for the analysis and response. Alysha is working on content changes and logos, which are currently going through approval process. I have responded to your responses below.

Regards,
  Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your email, it's great to hear that you're generally happy with the site. The feedback from your testing is really useful. See below for comments on each item.

With regards to next steps it would be good to have the new logo and any content changes complete before we migrate the site to the live server. When do expect to have those?

Best,

Darwin

Hi,
I have been loading live data in to the 'hosting' environment - http://sa.staging.ckanhosted.com/ and in the process have uncovered a few anomalies and points of interest.

If you could assess these please - none appear to be show-stoppers. I've provided examples from the datasets in my notes below so you can observe more easily.

Note that most of the resources attached to datasets are linked rather than stored.

1) The 'author' is shown at the dataset level - see http://sa.staging.ckanhosted.com/dataset/video-conferencing-sites, however when you go to the resource level (click on the resource) it is displayed as 'unknown' in the 'Additional Information'. Additional question: was the 'maintainer' meant to be displayed in 'Additional Information' too?
Agree this is a bug. Issue raised in CKAN 2.0 project will be fixed as part of CKAN ongoing development in near future.

NOTED

2) The 'show more' and 'hide' functions sitting below 'Additional Information' on the 'resource' page don't seem to do anything.
Agree this is a bug. Issue raised in CKAN 2.0 project will be fixed as part of CKAN ongoing development in near future.

NOTED

3) On some datasets, clicking on the resource immediately tries to download rather than attempt to preview first - see http://sa.staging.ckanhosted.com/dataset/adelaide-metro-general-transit-feed-specification-2
Issue raised in CKAN 2.0 project to improve the user experience in this situation

NOTED

4) In some datasets that don't preview, when you click on 'more details' you get the 'no handler....' Message - see http://sa.staging.ckanhosted.com/dataset/gazetteer. On some others you get a more severe looking "error" message referring to the timeout that was happening - e.g. Could not load preview: DataProxy returned an error (Data transformation failed. HTTPException: Deadline exceeded while waiting for HTTP response from URL: http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/datasets/SLSALibraryhackAllImagesExcludingAboriginalIncludingGEOS_2011-01-19.csv) - see http://sa.staging.ckanhosted.com/dataset/south-australian-photographs
WOULD BE GOOD TO HAVE A MESSAGE THAT SIMPLY CONVEYED THE DATASET WAS TOO LARGE TO BE PREVIEWED OR SIMILAR. IS THERE NEED TO REPORT A FAILURE/ERROR? MAKES IT SOUND BROKEN.

That CSV is 30 MB so it's too big for CKAN to be able to load from a remote site and preview. Uploading to the datastore would give better results but it is still quite a large file.

5) In some instances when you are in a map and enlarging (drilling in on) the map, the map "jumps" a bit higher on the screen masking the 'grid graph map' boxes.
I wasn't quite sure what you meant by this. Do you have a screenshot please?

I STRUGGLED TO GET THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN BUT IT DID EVENTUALLY. IT HAPPENS ONLY INTERMITTENTLY. JUST THOUGHT I'D REPORT IT SO YOU MIGHT GET CONSISTENCY OF THE NAVIGATION/FUNCTIONALITY. AFTER PRESSING '+' TO DRILL IN TO MAP A FEW TIMES, YOU CAN GET THE TOP OF THE MAP CREEPING UP AND OBSCURING THE 'GRID' - 'GRAPH' - 'MAP' BOXES. ALL IT MEANS IS YOU HAVE TO EXIT AND RE-ENTER THE RESOURCE IF YOU WANT TO SWITCH E.G. FROM MAP TO GRID. A VERY MINOR ISSUE, FYI.

6) Question: I notice the maps use "cluster markers" for clustering at one point - this option is ticked by default. What is the basis for these boundaries as they seem quite inconsistent?
I will double check how those areas are defined with the developer responsible for that component.

WOULD BE GOOD TO KNOW THIS AS SOME OF THE SHAPES LOOK WEIRD OR INNAPROPRIATE, E.G. COVER ALMOST NOTHING OR BY CONTRAST COVER VAST AREAS THAT DON'T SEEM LOGICAL.

If you see any usage errors or misconceptions I have (about the functionality) on the data I have entered it would be great to know.

Thanks,
Peter
