[datacatalogs] Fwd: Potential addition to http://datacatalogs.org

Hi Data Catalogs team,

[@Alex, moving your query on-list - if you sign up at
http://lists.okfn.org/mailman/listinfo/data-catalogs you will be able to
post too :)]

Following on from our previous discussion:

If the Water and Environmental Hub were to add 'share' to the terms of
license for their metadata, would we be able to add them to the data
catalog? For full details of their project, see:
http://www.waterenvironmentalhub.com

The new terms of service would read:

By posting and sharing content with WEHUB, the user retains copyright of
the original content. You agree to grant WEHUB a perpetual, royalty-free,
nonexclusive, irrevocable license to use, modify, reproduce, adapt, edit,
perform analysis on, publish, display, share and distribute the submitted
content. WEHUB is not obligated to treat such content as confidential or
proprietary)

Thanks for your advice!
Laura

Hi Laura,

Thanks for vetting this with your colleagues.

So if I understand what you're suggesting, if we add "share" to that
statement in our current Terms of Service then we are OK? Such as this:

By posting and sharing content with WEHUB, the user retains copyright of
the original content. You agree to grant WEHUB a perpetual, royalty-free,
nonexclusive, irrevocable license to use, modify, reproduce, adapt, edit,
perform analysis on, publish, display, share and distribute the submitted
content. WEHUB is not obligated to treat such content as confidential or
proprietary.

If so, I will make that change immediately.

Alex

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> You may want to add http://www.waterenvironmentalhub.cato your list of open data catalogs.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Water and Environmental Hub (WEHUB) project is an open
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> source web platform that aggregates, federates, and connects water data and
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> information with users looking to download, analyze, model and interpret
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> water and environmental-based information. By combining water expertise
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> with an open web development approach and an entrepreneurial foundation,
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the project will spur economic diversification and benefit both public
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> users and the private sector by improving the access to water data and
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> tools for academia, government, industry, NGOs and the general public.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> In partnership with other open data repositories around
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> water, the WEHUB is developing a web-based platform that will not only
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> provide a water-related data catalogue, but deliver an innovative
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> aggregator service that is linked with a unified output service (API). This
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> will allow organizations and users to develop customized applications on
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> top of the WEHUB web platform and gain access to all of the WEHUB's
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> aggregated data.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> We currently have 2000+ observation datasets, 100+ base
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> layers from Western Canada, and 10+ web services related to water and
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> environment mainly from North America but some global datasets available
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> for search, discovery, download, and also available through our RESTful
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> API. Current data available includes these sources: Environment Canada,
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Natural Resources Canada, USGS, various provincial and state governments,
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> various cities/municipalities in Canada/US, various industry including
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> IBM's Creekwatch, and various NGOs.
