[ddj] data-driven-journalism Digest, Vol 24, Issue 4

Hi Duarte
For the moment we are just putting them in Google Docs but we will
move to Readthedocs.org
This month we will launch the collaborative writing of the
Iberoamerican Data Journalism Handbook and we are going to include
things like this in the handbook. This Handbook will quote many things
from the original Data Journalism Handbook and will work on other
related stuff too.

The differences that make both projects complementary is that the
Iberoamerican Data Handbook included guides and tutorials very
specific to Iberoamerica and also will seek to detail a state of data
journalism in Iberoamerica.

That means that we will include topics such as:
-Security and Cybersecurity (for countries where both are a basic
requirement to preserve the life of journalists and their sources)
-Press law, law on access to information, transparency law by country
(if there are any, how do they work, does it work, what is the common
practice to address issues by country, according to the experience of
professionals who write of their country).
-Open data and open government data policy by country (same as above)
-Data journalism by country (who does data journalism do in each
country, which are the most prominent examples, etc)

The situation of each country in our region is extremely different and
the idea is to take a snapshot of the current legislation, the data to
which the public can access, the problems the data presents
in reality not what authorities say, knowing how the information is
obtained in each country (Can request information using laws of access
to public information? Yes, no.

So we invite anyone who is interested to participate in this free and
open source project to become part of our list
http://bit.ly/manualperiodismodedatos

We will be announcing it formally very soon

Cheers

Miguel Paz
