Hi Dimitrios,

the postgresql package is required on the front-end. It provides the
drivers for communicating with a (remote) postgres database:

$> yum info postgres
Name : postgresql
Arch : x86_64
Version : 8.4.13
Release : 1.el6_3
Size : 14 M
Repo : installed
>From repo : updates
Summary : PostgreSQL client programs
URL : http://www.postgresql.org/
License : PostgreSQL
Description : PostgreSQL is an advanced Object-Relational database
management system
<snip>
: If you want to manipulate a PostgreSQL database on a
local or remote PostgreSQL
: server, you need this package. You also need to install
this package
            : if you're installing the postgresql-server package.

This contrasts to the postgresql-server package, which provides the
database itself.
