Dear all,
as I said a couple of months ago, there is strong interest in starting a
OKF local chapter in Italy. Just to recap where we are now and what has
been done in terms of community building and activities:

       * it.ckan.net is constantly growing, 3 days ago we had a CKAN
Party after a whole afternoon of workshop about open data in
Italy - we are about to alias it as datagov.it/dati - and I
would like to add a similar alias to an Italian instance of
         isitopendata.org
       * there are strong relationships with existing & newborn
organizations like GFOSS.it, ASSOLI, DataGov.it, the
OpenStreetMap and Spaghetti Open Data communities
       * presentation at OGD Camp in London last month by Lorenzo
Benussi, Michele Barbera, Federico Morando and myself
       * ODC licenses being translated by Ernesto Belisario and Stefano
         Laguardia
       * Ernesto, Federico, Stefano and myself are part of a working
group for improving the Italian Open Data License (most
importantly, making sure it is actually an open license)
       * public events are becoming difficult to cope with! Just to name
         those that happened since September:
               * call4apps (Linked Open Data applications) at the
                 National Research Council
               * fammisapere.info
               * GFOSS Day had a dedicated open data session
               * Internet Governance Forum 2010 had a dedicated open data
                 session
               * the TOP-IX conference in Turin was dedicated to Open
Data (and I finally had a chance to meet both Rufus and
                 Friedrich Lindenberg)

and I am certainly forgetting something. Anyway, before discussing the
opportunity for a registered organization, I'd like to ask for:
       * a new mailing list to coordinate CKAN-related and other ongoing
activities (e.g. we're writing a very short and informative
         "Open Data Manifesto")
       * a new blog at it.okfn.org

Any comments and questions are more than welcome, as usual, and maybe
the next group call is the right time to discuss some of this more
quietly.

Ciao
steko
