My 2c is that it would be better to keep it all in one place: why split 
the google rank and eyeballs between two different locations. 
Furthermore it is trivial to include the petition as a subdomain or 
suburl of the main site. However I agree that it might be useful to 
reserve this domain and we could take a decision to move entirely to 
that domain name from publicgeodata.
